IACM receives delegation visit from Union of Portuguese-Speaking Cities

Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Institute for Civic and Municipal Affairs (IACM), José Tavares, received a delegation from the Union of Luso-African-American-Asiatic Capital Cities (UCCLA), on June 13, headed by the chairman of General Assembly of UCCLA and governor of the province of Luanda in Angola, Francisco Higino Carneiro. Both sides agreed to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in the area of food security.

The 18th IEEE International Symposium on a World of Wireless, Mobile and Multimedia Networks (World of Wireless, Mobile and Multimedia Networks, WoWMoM), organised by Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and IEEE Computer Society, the Technical Committee on Computer Communications, Queen Mary University of London, UK, and Missouri University of Science and Technology, USA, came to a close at MPI on 15 June. Delegates engaged in various dynamic academic exchanges, agreeing that this conference was very informative and fruitful.

Macao’s Base Rate of the Discount Window Raised to 1.5%

The Monetary Authority of Macao (AMCM) raised the Base Rate of the Discount Window today (15 June 2017) by 25 basis points to 1.5%. It has been the fourth time for the AMCM to raise the policy rate since December 2015.


Cultural Affairs Bureau Accepts Applications for the 2017 Subsidy Programme for Fashion Design on Sample Making

The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) is launching the 2017 Subsidy Programme for Fashion Design on Sample Making from Friday, 16 June 2017. Eligible applicants will be granted subsidies of up to a maximum of MOP160,000 for sample production and promotional materials of selected entries. The maximum quota of the Subsidy Programme is eight persons (groups) and the applications are open until 14 August 2017, 5pm.


Consumer Council released latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ Surveyed spots included supermarkets in N. Sra. de Fátima Parish

Consumer Council conducted its third ‘Supermarket price survey’ in June on 15 June for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included 14 supermarkets in Toi San, Ilha Verde and Fai Chi Kei areas in N. Sra. de Fátima Parish.


17th Macao City Fringe Festival Call for proposals of programmes and performance venues

The 17th Macao City Fringe Festival, organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), will be held in January next year, and will continue to assemble creative and alternative works. Call for proposals of programmes and performance venues is now open. The deadline is on 21 July 2017.


Foreign exchange reserves and nominal effective exchange rate index for the pataca – May 2017

The Monetary Authority of Macao announced today that the preliminary estimate of Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves amounted to MOP152.7 billion (USD19.02 billion) at the end of May 2017. The reserves decreased by 0.9% from the revised value of MOP154.1 billion (USD19.24 billion) for the previous month. Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves at end-May 2017 represented 11 times the currency in circulation or 87.9% of pataca M2 at end-April 2017.

Macao delegation in Tianjin, expanding overseas Chinese ties

Cooperation with Tianjin Municipality and its platform role would help Macao advance its own strategic position as a platform connecting China and Portuguese-speaking countries, said today the Secretary for Economy and Finance, Mr Leong Vai Tac.
