Survey on manpower needs and wages for the 1st quarter of 2018 – Banking sector

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that there were 27 banks in Macao; number of full-time employees increased by 186 year-on-year to 6,239 at the end of the first quarter of 2018. Analysed by occupation, there were 1,689 directors and managers, and 2,057 clerks (including 736 bank tellers).

Director of Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, and President of the Institute for Tourism Studies (IFT), Fanny Vong, attended the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA)Annual Summit 2018 in Gangneung, Korea and the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO)/PATA Leaders Debate held in tandem. At the occasion, Director Senna Fernandes was elected to be the PATA Secretary/Treasurer today (20 May).


IPIM to Hold Advanced Enterprise Training on Food Trade at the End of the Month

With a view to enhancing the development of Macao as a distribution center for food of Portuguese-speaking countries, the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) will join hands with the Macao office of Enterprise Europe Network Central China (EENCC Macao) to organise the Advanced Enterprise Training on “How to Sell Food & Beverage Products to China”. This training course is in two parts, the first of which will be held at the Multi-Function Conference Hall of IPIM on 28 May on the 19th floor of Edifício China Civil Plaza, 263 Alameda Dr. Carlos D'Assumpção. The latter part of training will be held in the fourth quarter of this year, when a delegation will be organised to visit and learn from foreign enterprises which have successfully expanded their market in Mainland China. Those who are engaged or interested in food trade are welcome to participate.






UM ranked among the top globally in ESI in clinical medicine and four other fields

The University of Macau (UM) has been included in the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) database for ranking among the top 1 per cent in terms of citation frequency of published papers in the field of clinical medicine. In addition to this field, so far UM has been included in the database for ranking among the top 1 per cent in four other fields, namely engineering, pharmacology and toxicology, computer science, and social sciences, general. UM is one of the four universities in Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan that have been included in the ESI database in a new field this year, which shows international recognition of UM’s research capacity.

Consumer Council conducted its latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ on 18 May for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included supermarkets near Horte e Costa, Avenida do Ouvidor Arriaga and Rua da Emenda areas in Santo António Parish.
