Exhibition “Hundred Species – Works of Peggy Chan” opens on Thursday

The Macao Museum of Art(MAM, from the Portuguese acronym), under the Cultural Affairs Bureau, has been holding the “Macao Arts Window” since 2012, which aims to encourage creativity and develop contemporary art in Macao. The theme of this edition of the “Macao Arts Window” is “Hundred Species – Works of Peggy Chan”, which will be inaugurated on Thursday, 1 June, at 6:30pm, on the third floor of MAM. All are welcome.


Results of survey on manpower needs and wages for the 1st quarter of 2017

The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) released results of the Survey on Manpower Needs and Wages for the first quarter of 2017. Survey coverage for this quarter comprises Manufacturing; Hotels; Restaurants; Insurance; Financial Intermediation Activities; Electricity, Gas & Water Supply; Child-care and Elderly Care. This survey excludes the self-employed, as well as insurance agents and brokers not directly employed by insurance companies.


Global Centre for Tourism Education and Training holds “Strategic Tourism Planning and Management for a Sustainable Future” training programme for participants from Asia-Pacific regions and Portuguese speaking countries

On 22 May, the Global Centre for Tourism Education and Training (hereafter the Centre) organised an eight-day training programme titled “Strategic Tourism Planning and Management for a Sustainable Future”. It is the third time of training held by the Centre, followed by two professional training programmes for representatives from Asia-Pacific countries and regions last year. Twenty one representatives from Myanmar, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Mainland China and Macao SAR participated in the programme. In addition, ten representatives from Portuguese speaking countries namely Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique and Timor Leste organised by the Macao Government Tourism Office also joined some sessions of the programme.


Gross Domestic Product for the 1st quarter of 2017

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the economy of Macao expanded by 10.3% year-on-year in real terms in the first quarter of 2017, higher than the growth in the previous quarter (7.0%), attributable to the improving exports of services and investment, as well as a relatively lower base of comparison in the first quarter of last year. External demand continued to expand, pushing up exports of services by 13.4%, in which exports of gaming services and other tourism services grew by 11.3% and 20.9% year-on-year respectively; exports of goods also rose by 9.7%. Meanwhile, domestic demand increased as private consumption expenditure, government final consumption expenditure and investment grew by 1.6%, 4.8% and 4.6% respectively; imports of goods also went up by 5.2%. The implicit deflator of GDP, which measures the overall changes in prices, edged up by 0.5% year-on-year.


“Nam Van Lake Craft Market” invites stall operators for registration

Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), the 2017 Nam Van Lake Craft Market will be held from 1 January to 31 December 2017 on Saturdays and Sundays, from 2pm to 9pm, in Anim’Arte NAM VAN. Registration for Nam Van Lake Craft Market from July to December 2017 is now open until Friday, 16 June 2017, at 5pm. All cultural and creative entities and individuals from Macao, Mainland China and Hong Kong are welcome to register, in order to showcase and sell their original brands and products.


UM holds Congregation 2017 Chui Sai On: UM joins international higher education trend

The University of Macau today (27 May) held the Congregation 2017. UM this year graduated 1,400 students. Chui Sai On, chief executive of Macao SAR and chancellor of UM, attended the ceremony. Chui said at the ceremony that today’s UM attaches importance to introducing high-calibre talent and actively joins the international higher education trend, adding that the university vigorously develops disciplines with potential and spares no effort in curriculum development in order to improve the quality of its education.




UM inaugurates Chinese-Portuguese Bilingual Teaching and Training Centre

The University of Macau (UM) today (26 May) held an inauguration ceremony for the Chinese-Portuguese Bilingual Teaching and Training Centre. Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Tam Chon Weng said that higher education institutions in Macao have better conditions than any university in mainland China to offer Portuguese language education. He expressed hope that faculty members of UM will work together at the Chinese-Portuguese Bilingual Teaching and Training Centre in order to nurture high-calibre bilingual professionals for Macao and China.


Inauguration of Exhibition “Constellation – Works by Nicolas Delaroche”

Organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, the exhibition “Constellation – Works by Nicolas Delaroche”, integrated in the 28thMacao Arts Festival, was inaugurated on Friday, 26 May, at 6:30pm, at Tap Seac Gallery. The opening ceremony was officiated by the President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao S.A.R. Government, Leung Hio Ming; the Assistant of the Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao S.A.R., Shao Bin; the Deputy Consul General of Switzerland in Hong Kong, Andreas Rufer; the Head of the Department of Exhibitions and Museums of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Lei Lai Kio; and the artist Nicolas Delaroche. The exhibition is open to the general public.
