Consumer Council conducts price survey on selling prices of fresh pork and vegetables from Zhuhai and Macao

For the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June, Consumer Council on 23 May collects prices of fresh pork from wet markets and supermarkets for consumers’ reference. The mentioned data collected during 17 May to 23 May are used for comparing the average selling price of the same products from Zhuhai. The relevant data has been uploaded to the Council’s website for consumers’ reference.


Investment Management Review of the Macao SAR Fiscal Reserve, for the first quarter of 2017

As of the end of the first quarter of 2017, total assets of the Macao SAR Fiscal Reserve stood at MOP472.4 billion approximately, of which MOP128.0 billion belonged to the Basic Reserve and MOP344.4 billion to the Excess Reserve. In February 2017, MOP29.3 billion from the fiscal budget surplus of 2015 was officially transferred into the Fiscal Reserve. During the first quarter of 2017, the Fiscal Reserve continued to be managed under a prudent and effective strategy and recorded an investment income of MOP4.4 billion, representing an annualised 3.9% rate of return for the period.


Visitor arrivals for April 2017

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that attributable to the Easter holiday (that fell in March last year), visitor arrivals in April 2017 increased by 11.0% year-on-year to 2,742,799, up by 9.7% month-to-month. Overnight visitors (1,441,162) and same-day visitors (1,301,637) went up by 17.7% and 4.4% respectively year-on-year. The average length of stay of visitors rose by 0.1 day year-on-year to 1.2 days; overnight visitors and same-day visitors stayed an average of 2.1 days and 0.2 day respectively.


Consumer price index (CPI) for April 2017

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Composite CPI in April 2017 increased by 0.80% year-on-year to 108.89, slightly higher than the 0.72% growth in March. The increment was attributable to higher charges for eating out and outpatient services, as well as increase in tuition fees and rising gasoline prices.

Consumer Council conducted its latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ in May on 22 May for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included supermarkets near Horte e Costa, Avenida do Ouvidor Arriaga and Rua da Emenda areas in Santo António Parish.


UM FST Dean Philip Chen receives IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems Outstanding Paper Award

Prof Philip Chen, dean and chair professor of the Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Macau (UM), recently received the 2017 IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems Outstanding Paper Award, for his first-authored paper titled ‘Adaptive Consensus Control for a Class of Nonlinear Multi-agent Time-delay Systems Using Neural Network.’ The paper was selected from 195 papers published in the IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems in 2014. The journal publishes technical articles that deal with the theory, design, and applications of neural networks and related learning systems. The award was presented to Prof Chen by the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (CIS).


Survey on manpower needs and wages for the 1st quarter of 2017 Banking sector

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that there were 28 banks in Macao; number of full-time employees increased by 53 year-on-year to 6,053 at the end of the first quarter of 2017. Analysed by occupation, there were 1,626 directors and managers, and 2,030 clerks (including 749 bank tellers).


MGTO attends PATA Annual Summit 2017

Director of Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, has just participated in the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Annual Summit 2017 in Sri Lanka. Under the theme “Disruption. Innovation. Transformation: The Future of Tourism”, the four-day Summit features a series of panel discussions, the Ministerial Debate, the PATA Annual General Meeting and the PATA Youth Symposium among other meetings and activities in the programme this year.


The 8th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum (IIICF) will be held on 1 June in Macao

The 8th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum (hereinafter “The 8th IIICF”) will be held on 1-2 June at the Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel. The Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China, Government of the Macao SAR, and the Central People's Government Liaison Office of the Macao SAR are the advising units of this event, which is organised jointly by the China International Contractors Association and the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute. The theme of the event is “Collaboratively Build a Diversified, Innovative, and Sustainable Infrastructure with Industry Connectivity”. Political, business and academia leaders from China and overseas have been invited to the event, which will provide an exchange platform for diversified and innovative collaboration, and as such the combined development of infrastructure building and other related industries will be discussed.
