Consumer Council conducts price survey on selling prices of fresh pork and vegetables from Zhuhai and Macao

For the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June, Consumer Council on 9 May collects prices of fresh pork from wet markets and supermarkets for consumers’ reference. The mentioned data collected during 3 May to 9 May are used for comparing the average selling price of the same products from Zhuhai. The relevant data has been uploaded to the Council’s website for consumers’ reference.


MPI’s Bachelor of Accounting passed Learning Programme Review by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ)

The Bachelor of Accounting programme of the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) has successfully passed the Learning Programme Review conducted by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ). This marks the first degree programme in the field of accounting to have passed an international academic review in Macao. The panel gave very positive feedback to the programme regarding its teaching, academic development and research capabilities which together create an excellent learning environment for students. Having previously been accredited by professional bodies such as the CPA Australia and ACCA UK, this successful international review has highlighted the superb quality of higher education in Macao and is yet another demonstration of MPI’s excellence in teaching. Following this positive exercise, MPI’s academic endeavours will be further intensified to contribute to the nurturing of talents for Macao and neighbouring regions.

IC sets up Macao Creative Pavilion at the 13th China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair

The 13thChina (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair (ICIF) will be held from 11 to 15 May at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Centre. The Cultural Affairs Bureau will set up the Macao Creative Pavilion, promoting the participation of Macao’s cultural and creative entities. The opening ceremony will be held on 11 May, at 11:30am. The Macao Creative Pavilion, themed on Portuguese-style design products, will showcase and commercialise local cultural and creative products in the fair.

Credit card statistics – 1st quarter 2017

According to statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, the total number of personal credit cards in circulation continued to grow in the first quarter of 2017. Both the credit card turnover and total repayments witnessed varied degrees of increase from a year ago.


Transport and communications statistics for March 2017

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that new registration of motor vehicles rose substantially by 78.6% year-on-year to 1,665 in March 2017, with that of heavy motorcycles (1,034) soaring by 88.0%. Owing to a notable decrease in January, new registration of motor vehicles in the first quarter of 2017 dropped by 5.8% year-on-year to 3,762, of which light automobiles fell by 451 (-28.0%). As at the end of March 2017, total number of licensed motor vehicles was 245,310, down by 1.4% year-on-year; number of motorcycles (127,327) and light automobiles (110,184) decreased by 1.7% and 1.6% respectively. There were 1,181 cases of traffic accidents in March and number of casualties totalled 366. In the first quarter of 2017, number of traffic accidents decreased by 7.6% year-on-year to 3,578 cases, resulting in 1,118 casualties and 3 of them were killed.
