Consumer Council conducted its latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ inApril on 21 April for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included supermarkets in São Lázaro and São Lourenço Parishes.


IFT Café holds exhibition “Strolling on Paper – Works by Che In Lei”

Nobel laureate Carl Edwin Wieman to give talk at UM

The University of Macau (UM) on 25 April will confer the degree of Doctor of Science honoris causaon the Nobel laureate in physics Carl Edwin Wieman, in recognition of his contributions to science education and research. Following the degree conferment ceremony, Prof Wieman will give a Doctor honoris causa Lecture titled ‘Taking a Scientific Approach to Science Education’. He will share his views on science education and discuss ways to increase students’ scientific knowledge.


Business climate survey on restaurants & similar establishments and retail trade for February 2017

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that owing to a slowdown in business after the Lunar New Year, coupled with the effect of the Lunar New Year occurring in February last year, the proportion of interviewed restaurants & similar establishments that reported a year-on-year growth in receipts in February 2017 decreased substantially by 25 percentage points from January to 37%. The proportions of Chinese Restaurants (18%), Western Restaurants (25%) and Japanese & Korean Restaurants (31%) that recorded a year-on-year rise in receipts dropped by 73, 40 and 19 percentage points respectively from January, while the corresponding proportion of Local Style Cafes, Congee & Noodle Shops (52%) went up by 8 percentage points. On the other hand, 52% of the interviewed restaurants & similar establishments reported a year-on-year decline in receipts, up by 24 percentage points from January, with the corresponding proportions of Chinese Restaurants, Western Restaurants and Japanese & Korean Restaurants increasing by 61, 30 and 19 percentage points respectively.


Consumer price index (CPI) for March 2017

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Composite CPI in March 2017 increased by 0.72% year-on-year to 108.78, higher than the 0.37% growth in February. The increment was attributable to dearer charges for eating out, increase in tuition fees and higher gasoline prices.


UM students win Outstanding Paper Award at Hong Kong Institution of Engineers’s annual symposium

Two University of Macau (UM) students from the Department of Electromechanical Engineering, Faculty of Science and Technology, received Outstanding Paper Awards at the annual symposium ‘Belt and Road: Opportunities for Control, Automation and Instrumentation Engineers’ of the Control, Automation and Instrumentation Division of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers.


Open call for submission of information for the Macao Drama Yearbook

The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) is now calling for submission of information for the publication of the Macao Drama Yearbook 2016and the Macao Drama Yearbook 2017. Local art associations or artists are welcome to provide relevant information starting from today until 30 June in order to facilitate the compilation of the yearbooks.

Consumer Council conducted its latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ in April on 20 April for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included supermarkets at Lam Mau, Patane and San Kio areas in Santo António Parish.


Macao Orchestra presented sacred music at St. Dominic’s Church Concert “Musical Yoga” to be held at Dom Pedro V Theatre on Saturday

The Macao Orchestra (OM), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, presented the “Easter Concert”, part of the Orchestra’s Maestros with Charisma series, at St. Dominic’s Church on 15 and 16 April. Lio Kuok Man, a renowned conductor born and raised in Macao, collaborated with four outstanding Korean singers – soprano Michelle Juyoung Hong, mezzo-soprano Jung Mi Kim, tenor Charles Kim and baritone Paul Kong – to present a number of sacred musical pieces.
