Joining the world in celebration of World Tourism Day MGTO rolls out activities to promote sustainable development in tandem with launch of “Gastronomy Map” Website
The World Tourism Day, falling on 27 September annually, revolves around the theme of “Tourism and the Digital Transformation” this year. In commemoration of this global tourism occasion, Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) organized a series of activities today (27 September) to celebrate with the rest of the world, from greeting the Lucky Tourist, the traditional Tray Race to the “World Tourism Day” Dinner, which was attended by the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Alexis Tam. Gastronomic elements were woven into the string of activities, including the launch of the Gastronomy Map, with the aim to create a positive impetus for sustainable tourism development in Macao.

Inauguration of “Collective Exhibition of Macao Visual Arts 2018”
Organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, the “Collective Exhibition of Macao Visual Arts 2018” was inaugurated on 27 September at the Tap Seac Gallery. Winning artists were awarded in the ceremony. The opening ceremony was attended by the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao S.A.R. Government, Alexis Tam Chon Weng; the Director of the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao S.A.R., Wan Sucheng; the President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Mok Ian Ian; the Director of the School of Arts of the Macao Polytechnic Institute, Hsu Hsiu-Chu; the Member of the Cultural Consultative Committee, Lai Ieng; the Head of the Department of Exhibitions and Museums of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Lei Lai Kio; the President of theMacau Artist Society, Lok Hei; the President of the Macao Sculpture Association, Ng Sang Kei; and the President of the General Assembly of the Photographic Society of Macao, Ma Chi Son.

External merchandise trade statistics for August 2018
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total merchandise export for August 2018 amounted to MOP1.02 billion, up by 26.7% year-on-year. Value of re-exports (MOP907 million) increased by 30.9%, with that of Diamond & diamond jewellery and Watches surging by 191.3% and 145.4% respectively; moreover, value of domestic exports (MOP112 million) grew by 0.7%, with that of Tobacco increasing by 62.5%. Total merchandise import rose by 22.5% year-on-year to MOP7.58 billion, of which imports of Motor cars & motorcycles and Beauty, cosmetic & skin-care products expanded by 86.6% and 66.7% respectively. Merchandise trade deficit in August amounted to MOP6.56 billion.

Macao’s Base Rate of the Discount Window Raised to 2.5%
The Monetary Authority of Macao (AMCM) raised the Base Rate of the Discount Window today (27 September 2018) by 25 basis points to 2.5%. It has been the third time for the AMCM to raise the policy rate so far this year.

MGTO actively prepares for 1st October Golden Week
Including seven days (1st – 7th October) in total, the 1st October Golden Week will start on 1st October. The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) has taken an array of measures in vigorous preparation for the approach of the peak period, such as sending reminders to tourism industry operators and visitors by letter and mobile text respectively, interdepartmental sharing of information, scrupulous inspections, food guide publication, as well as delegating manpower at tourist spots to attend to visitor enquiries and so forth. Through the diverse measures above, MGTO has made unreserved efforts to cater for the needs of residents and visitors as well as to optimize the tourism environment and service quality in Macao.
