CE sends Carrie Lam congratulations on election victory in Hong Kong

The Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On, today cordially congratulated Mrs Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor on her victory in the 2017 Chief Executive Election of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) of the People’s Republic of China.


Environmental Projects Online Matching Platform “Green Exchange” to be officially launched on March 31

Aiming to develop the role of Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum and Exhibition (MIECF) as a platform for co-operation and exchange between the environmental industry in the Pan-Pearl River Delta and their counterparts in the European Union and Macao SAR, and to promote the technology transfer among Macao, the Pan-Pearl River Delta Region and other countries and regions, in particular the exchanges with EU on advanced environmental technology, as well as to strengthen co-operation in the environmental industry, the “Green Exchange”, an environmental projects online matching platform, will be official launched on March 31.


Macao Museum’s “Story of Cannon-Making – Children Experience Exhibition” officially inaugurated

The “Story of Cannon-Making – Children Experience Exhibition”, organised by the Macao Museum, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, was inaugurated on Friday, 24th March, at 6pm, in the lobby of the Macao Museum, and was officiated by the Head of the Department of Exhibitions and Museums of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Lei Lai Kio; the member of the Cultural Consultative Committee, Tong Mui Siu; the Rector of the City University of Macau, Zhang Shu Guang; the Head of the Department of Research and Educational Resources of the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau, Wong Kin Mou; and the Director of the Macao Museum, Loi Chi Pang. The exhibition will be open to the public from 25th March to 20th August, on the 3rd floor of the Macao Museum.


Cinematheque‧Passion to be inaugurated next Thursday

The Cinematheque‧Passion under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will be inaugurated on Thursday, 30 March, at 6:45pm. Three short films produced by three Macao directors (Tracy Choi, Chao Koi Wang and António Faria), taking the Cinematheque as theme, will also be screened. An opening activity specially organised for Macao filmmakers will also be held at 8:30pm on the same day after the opening ceremony, starting a new chapter in the Macao film industry.

Consumer Council conducted its latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ inMarch on 24 March for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included 13 supermarkets in Sé Parish.


Tickets for Macao Orchestra’s “Children’s Day Concert – The adventure of DoReMi” on sale from Sunday

The Macao Orchestra (OM, from the Portuguese acronym) under the Cultural Affairs Bureau will present the concert “Children’s Day Concert - The adventure of DoReMi” on Saturday, 3 June, at 2:30pm, at the Macao Tower Auditorium. All children are invited to participate in a joyous musical journey with “Uncle Music”, fairy “DoReMi” and “The Princess”. The concert is suitable for children aged three or above and tickets are available at the Macau Ticketing Network from 10am on 26 March (Sunday).


Terrorist Attack in London – No information indicating that Macao residents have been affected

The Tourism Crisis Management Office (GGCT) is paying close attention to the situation caused by the terrorist attack on the 22nd in London. Until the present moment, GGCT has not received any request for information or assistance, nor indication that Macao residents have been affected.


IPIM Organises Delegation of Representatives from the Convention, Exhibition and Tourism Industries to Shanghai to Promote the Strengths of Macao´s Convention and Exhibition Industry

Following the organisation of a delegation of representatives from the convention, exhibition and tourism industries to participate in the Asia-Pacific Incentives and Meetings Expo (AIME 2017) in Melbourne, Australia in February, the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) organised a delegation to participate in the Incentive Travel & Conventions, Meetings (IT&CM China 2017) in Shanghai from 21 to 23 March. Apart from participating in the event and related promotional activities, IPIM also set up a “Macao Pavilion” at the venue and arranged over 500 business-matching sessions. Participating enterprises said that they were able to get in touch with potential local and overseas customers from different sectors, which was beneficial to their business development.


UM professor becomes the first Chang Jiang Scholar Chair Professor in Humanities and Social Sciences from Macao

Prof Xu Jie, associate dean of the University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Arts and Humanities, has been elected the only Chang Jiang Scholar Chair Professor in the field of linguistics and applied linguistics for the year 2016. Prof Xu is the first Chang Jiang Scholar Chair Professor in Humanities and Social Sciences from Macao. He joined the competition for the title under the Chang Jiang Scholars Programme organised by the Chinese Ministry of Education.


Visitor arrivals for February 2017

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitor arrivals in February 2017 totalled 2,495,196, down by 5.6% year-on-year and 13.2% month-to-month. Same-day visitors decreased by 13.2% year-on-year to 1,263,236 while overnight visitors increased by 3.6% to 1,231,960. The average length of stay of visitors was 1.2 days, up by 0.1 day year-on-year; the average stay of overnight visitors went up by 0.1 day to 2.2 days whereas that of same-day visitors remained unchanged at 0.2 day.
