UM confers honorary doctorate on Jia Pingwa, holds seminar on contemporary literature

The University of Macau (UM) today (22 March) conferred a degree of Doctor of Letters honoris causa on the renowned writer Jia Pingwa, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to contemporary Chinese literature. Following the ceremony, Jia gave a Doctor honoris causa Lecture, titled ‘Contemporary Literary Writing in Chinese’, which attracted a full-house audience composed of UM faculty, students, and members of the public. Even the aisles were packed with people.


Cultural Affairs Bureau receives petition on the Lai Chi Vun shipyards

This morning (22 March), the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) received a petition containing signatures collected by civil entities urging the Bureau to “apply the classification procedures of immovable heritage to the Lai Chi Vun shipyards”. IC will review and analyze the relevant information, and will tackle the issue strictly in accordance with the “Cultural Heritage Protection Law”.

The Electoral Affairs Commission for the Legislative Assembly Election is to distribute – via various media and other channels – information on the upcoming election, with the aim of encouraging voters to exercise their voting rights and duties.

Consumer Council conducted its latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ in March on 22 March for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included supermarkets near Horte e Costa, Avenida do Ouvidor Arriaga and Rua da Emenda areas in Santo António Parish.


Consumer Report no. 282 published Report on seasonings and other food products included

The Consumer Council and Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) co-tested forty samples of soups, seasonings, condiments, and snacks for their contents of colouring matter and potassium. All samples pass the standard of testing colouring matter, meanwhile, four samples are found to contain high levels of potassium. Consumers are advised to pay attention when eating these kinds of foods, and to adopt a healthy diet.


Macao Orchestra presents concert “Musical Yoga” at Dom Pedro V Theatre in April

The Macao Orchestra (OM, from the Portuguese acronym), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will present the concert “Weekend Music Party – Musical Yoga” on Saturday, 22 April, at 4pm, at Dom Pedro V Theatre. A limited number of tickets is still available for purchase at the Macau Ticketing Network. Music aficionados are advised to purchase tickets shortly.

Each annual edition of the Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition (MIECF) invites a renowned expert to deliver a keynote speech. Achim Steiner, a former Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and former Under-Secretary General of the UN, will be the keynote speaker of the “Green Forum” at the 2017MIECF. The MIECF event will take place very soon. Mr Steiner now serves as International Vice-Chair of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED).

Applications for the 35th Macao Young Musicians Competition will end soon

The “35thMacao Young Musicians Competition”, organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will be held between 22 July and 3 August in designated venues in Macao. Applications are open from 20 to 26 March. The deadline for applications is 26 March, at 7pm. All interested parties may complete the online registration and submit documents and registration fee in the designated period of time.
