MPI international students visit Zhuhai Hengqin to experience the development of Greater Bay Area

To enhance the students’ understanding of the latest developments in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Student Affairs Office of the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) recently organised a number of international students and Macao students to visit Hengqin in Zhuhai, where they were welcomed by the Macao Affairs Bureau of the Zhuhai Hengqin New Area Administrative Committee. The students were arranged to visit the Construction and Development Planning Exhibition Hall in Hengqin New Area, the Hengqin underground comprehensive pipeline project, and the Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park of Co-operation between Guangdong and Macao and other facilities. All students have learned profoundly and look forward to the future development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.




UM to hold closing ceremony for Portuguese Language Summer Course this Friday

The University of Macau (UM) Department of Portuguese will hold a closing ceremony for the 32nd Portuguese Language Summer Course on 3 August. All are welcome.


St. Augustine’s Church reopens to the public

The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) has already concluded the inspection and repair works of St. Augustine’s Church, in cooperation with the Diocese of Macao. The Church reopens to the public on 1 August and will be open daily from 10am to 6pm, including on public holidays.


Transport and communications statistics for the 2nd quarter of 2018

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that as at the end of June 2018, total number of licensed motor vehicles dropped by 2.3% year-on-year to 238,006, of which light motorcycles (27,172) and light automobiles (106,968) decreased by 14.2% and 2.3% respectively, whereas heavy motorcycles (96,196) grew by 1.7%. New registration of motor vehicles fell by 4.4% year-on-year to 3,340 in the second quarter, yet rose by 3.3% year-on-year to 7,495 in the first half year of 2018 attributable to a 34.1% increase in light automobiles (3,153).


UM Summer English Immersion Programme increases students’ confidence

The University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Arts and Humanities (FAH) recently organised a four-week Summer English Immersion Programme for incoming first-year students. Participants exchanged ideas with programme assistants from around the world and experienced living in the residential colleges. The programme aimed to help students adapt to the English-speaking environment at UM. Participants say the programme significantly increased their confidence when speaking English and improved their listening and speaking skills in English.


MPI Students Participated in the Beijing “Aeronautics and Astronautics Summer Camp”, to Comprehend the Development of Science and Technology in China

In early July, Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) organised students to participate in the “Aeronautics and Astronautics Summer Camp” held by Beihang University. This summer camp facilitated university students from Beijing, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan to study together, to broaden their horizons, and to understand the development of national aeronautics and astronautics industries. MPI students thanked MPI for providing them with such a rare learning opportunity.


MPI Students Learn Bayu Culture in Chongqing

For the purpose of promoting academic exchange among universities in Macao, Chongqing and Hong Kong, and enhancing students’ awareness of the unique culture of the Bayu region, the Student Affairs Office of the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) organised a study camp with Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications. This was a precious learning experience for MPI students to understand the history and development of Bayu culture through lectures, city tours, site visits and culturalheritage visits.


Wages of construction workers and prices of construction materials for the 2nd quarter of 2018

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the average daily wage of construction workers in the second quarter of 2018 decreased by 2.3% quarter-to-quarter to MOP767, marking the fourth consecutive quarter of decline. The average daily wages of local construction workers (MOP961) and non-resident construction workers (MOP645) dropped by 1.0% and 4.6% respectively quarter-to-quarter.
