“Spring Breeze to the Southern Greenly Land – Exhibition of the Lunar New Year Traditions of Guangdong Province, Hong Kong S.A.R. and Macao S.A.R.” opens on Wednesday

Organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao S.A.R. Government and co-organized by the Department of Culture and Education of the Liaison Office of the Central Government in the Macao S.A.R., the Centre for Ethnic and Folk Literature and Art Development of the Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China, the Department of Culture of Guangdong Province and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and Intangible Cultural Heritage Office of the Leisure and Cultural Service Department of the Government of the Hong Kong S.A.R., and supported by the Office for Cultural Affairs with the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Regions of the Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China, the exhibition “Spring Breeze to the Southern Greenly Land – Exhibition of the Lunar New Year Traditions of Guangdong Province, Hong Kong S.A.R. and Macao S.A.R.” will be inaugurated on Wednesday, 25 January, at 6:30pm, at the Temporary Exhibitions Gallery of the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau. The opening ceremony is open to the general public. In conjunction with the theme of this exhibition, the Cultural Affairs Bureau will also organize a lecture entitled “Guangdong Spring Festival Celebration”. All residents are welcome to register.

Applications for the 35th Macao Young Musicians Competition open in March

In order to promote the development of classical music in Macao, to encourage young local musicians to explore their musical potential, and to provide them valuable stage experience and learning opportunities, the Cultural Affairs Bureau organizes the “35thMacao Young Musicians Competition”, between 22nd July and 3rd August, to be held in designated venues in Macao. Applications will be open from 20th to 26th March.


MGTO gets well prepared for Spring Festival Golden Week

With the seven-day-long Spring Festival Golden Week (27 January – 2 February) approaching, Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) is strenuously getting prepared for the peak period with a variety of measures adopted as follows: activation of tourism notification system, more scrupulous inspections, reminders to trade about various concerns, allocation of staff at different locations to provide tourism information for visitors, food guide publication as well as numerous mega celebrations during Chinese New Year and more. The above measures are taken to safeguard service quality in the industry, optimize the tourism environment and cater to the needs of residents and visitors for a memorable vacation in Macao.


The cachet of Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau

On 23rdJanuary 2017, a cachet will be available for our customers at the Coloane Post Office. Besides the new cachet, the existing cachets are available at the Philatelic Shop of General Post Office, Maritime Ferry Terminal Post Office, “Rua do Campo” Post Office, Airport Post Office, Carmo Post Office and the Communications Museum. The cachets let our residents or tourists to commemorate their visit at the Post Offices.


Visitor arrivals for December 2016

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitor arrivals totalled 2,814,450 in December 2016, up by 6.8% year-on-year and 8.7% month-to-month. Overnight visitors rose by 16.5% to 1,550,406, accounting for 55.1% of the total, while same-day visitors decreased by 3.1% to 1,264,044. The average length of stay of visitors held stable year-on-year at 1.2 days; the average stay of overnight visitors and same-day visitors was 2.1 days and 0.2 day respectively.


Two Nobel laureates discuss life and science with students recommended for admission to UM

The University of Macau (UM) invited Prof Aaron Ciechanover, the 2004 recipient of the Nobel Prize in chemistry, and Prof Arieh Warshel, the 2013 recipient of the Nobel Prize in chemistry, to give lectures to outstanding local students admitted by UM through the Principals’ Recommended Admission Scheme.


Macao music fans respond enthusiastically to first encounter with pianist Alice Sara Ott

The Macao Orchestra (OM, from the Portuguese acronym) under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, presented the concert “Piano Encounter – Meet Alice”, part of the Shining Virtuosos series, on 21 January, at the Macao Tower Auditorium. Under the baton of the Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Macao Orchestra, Lü Jia, OM joined hands with well-known young pianist Alice Sara Ott, who gave an exciting musical performance featuring Robert Schumann’s music from the Romantic Period.


The “Local Ginger – Cenozoic Graffiti Art Exhibition” and “Impression of Macau – Art Exhibition of Andre Lui” at the Lakeside Gallery

Co-organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) and the Macao Artist Society, the opening ceremony of the “Local Ginger – Cenozoic Graffiti Art Exhibition” and “Impression of Macau – Art Exhibition of Andre Lui” was held on 21 January 2017, at the Lakeside Gallery in the Anim’Arte NAM VAN.
