“Nam Van Lake Craft Market” invites local and overseas stall operators for registration

Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), the 2017 Nam Van Lake Craft Market will be held from 1 January to 30 June 2017 on Saturdays and Sundays, from 2pm to 9pm, in Anim’Arte NAM VAN. Registration for Nam Van Lake Craft Market from March to June 2017 is now open until Monday, 6 February 2017, at 5pm. All cultural and creative entities and individuals from Macao, Mainland China and Hong Kong are welcome to register, in order to showcase and sell their original brands and products.


Consumer Council released latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ Surveyed spots included supermarkets in N. Sra. de Fátima Parish

Consumer Council conducted its latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ in January on 18 January for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included 14 supermarkets in Toi San, Ilha Verde and Fai Chi Kei areas in N. Sra. de Fátima Parish.


Prof Rui Martins receives Outstanding Service Award from IEEE Council on Electronic and Design Automation

Prof Rui Martins, vice rector (research) of the University of Macau (UM) and director of the UM State Key Laboratory of Analog and Mixed-Signal VLSI (AMS-VLSI Lab), received the Outstanding Service Award from the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Council on Electronic and Design Automation, at the 22nd IEEE/ACM Asia and South Pacific Design Automation Conference (ASP-DAC) held in Tokyo, Japan, in recognition of his outstanding service to the electronic and design automation (EDA) community as the general chair of ASP-DAC in 2016.Thanks to the support of colleagues from the AMS-VLSI Lab, the IEEE Macao Joint-Chapter on Circuits and Systems/Communications (CAS/COM), and the Macao Society of Biological Engineering, as well as colleagues from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Faculty of Science and Technology, the ASP-DAC 2016 held in Macao last January was a great success.The ASP-DAC 2016 attracted 233 registered participants from 19 countries and regions, among whom 214 were from the academia and 19 were from related industries. The conference in Macao received 299 regular papers from 27 countries and regions. After rigorous and thorough reviews by the Technical Program Committee and a full-day face-to-face meeting with the authors, 94 papers were accepted and 24 technical sessions were organised. Eight special sessions were also organised based on talks by speakers invited by the Technical Program Committee. The ASP-DAC 2016 arranged for five keynote speakers to speak at the beginning of each day to discuss the future directions of this area.Like other similar conferences such as the Design Automation Conference, Design, Automation & Test in Europe, and the International Conference on Computer Aided Design, the ASP-DAC is a high-quality conference in the field of EDA. Founded in 1995, the conference aims to provide a platform for researchers and designers from Asia and South Pacific regions to exchange ideas and understand the latest technologies in the areas of LSI design and design automation.


Inmates’ Chinese New Year Party with Love, Care and Showcase of Talents

As Chinese New Year is approaching, to let inmates experience the festive atmosphere, receive the message of care and support from society and be more encouraged for their rehabilitation, the Correctional Services Bureau and Caritas Macau are organizing a Chinese New Year Party for inmates in the Male Detention Zone of Coloane Prison on three consecutive days starting 18 January. Inmates, arranged to attend in five groups, spend quality time together in the Party amid the festive atmosphere.

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) held its Annual Press Conference today (18 January) and announced that Macao’s total visitor arrivals in 2016 hit a record of 30 million and more, slightly up by 0.8% from a year earlier. Regardless of the minor increase in total visitor arrivals last year, the sum of overnight-stay visitors outweighed that of same-day visitors for the first time over the last ten years, registering a year-on-year increase of nearly 10%. Looking forward in 2017, MGTO will complete its formulation of the "Macao Tourism Industry Development Master Plan” and carry out different new and ongoing projects to ensure diversified and sustainable development of Macao’s tourism industry, in parallel with the tourism development goals in the Five-Year Development Plan formulated by the SAR Government and its progress of building Macao into a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure.


Organisations recruiting IFT students at Career Day

The Institute for Tourism Studies “Career Day 2017” was held on 18 January at IFT Taipa Campus. The event aimed to provide more information on the employment trends and prospects in the tourism and hospitality industry for graduating students, thus increasing their chances of success in job hunting.


Consumer Council conducts price survey on selling prices of fresh pork and vegetables from Zhuhai and Macao

For the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June, Consumer Council on 17 January collects prices of fresh pork from wet markets and supermarkets for consumers’ reference. The mentioned data collected during 11 January to 17 January are used for comparing the average selling price of the same products from Zhuhai. The relevant data has been uploaded to the Council’s website for consumers’ reference.


Business climate survey on restaurants & similar establishments and retail trade for November 2016

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that 30% of the interviewed restaurants & similar establishments reported a year-on-year growth in receipts in November 2016 owing to the Grand Prix and the Food Festival, up by 4 percentage points from October. Among them, 55% of the Chinese Restaurants showed a year-on-year rise in receipts, up by 6 percentage points from October, with the corresponding proportions of Western Restaurants (35%) and Japanese & Korean Restaurants (25%) increasing by 9 and 13 percentage points respectively from the previous month. Meanwhile, 50% of the interviewed restaurants & similar establishments recorded a year-on-year decline in receipts, similar to that in October, with the corresponding proportions of Japanese & Korean Restaurants and Chinese Restaurants falling by 13 and 6 percentage points from the previous month.


Holders of the Macao Special Administrative Region Passport are granted visa-free access or visa-on-arrival to Tunisia, Bahrain and Zimbabwe

The Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (Macao SAR) was informed by the Embassy of Tunisia in Beijing that holders of the Macao SAR Passport travelling to Tunisia in organized touristic group of five people or above and possessing proof of hotel accommodation and air ticket will be exempted from visa requirement for a maximum stay of 30 days when entering Tunisia.
