16th Macao City Fringe Festival officially inaugurated creating a rich feast of art

The 16th Macao City Fringe Festival, organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau and co-organized by the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau, is held from 13 to 22 January. The opening ceremony was held on Saturday, 14 January, at 3pm, at the Old Court Building, and was officiated by the President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Ung Vai Meng; the Head of the Department of Cultural Events of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Kent Ieong Chi Kin and the representatives of the artistic groups, among others.

Mr. Wang Jinzhen, Vice Chairman of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), one of the Co-organizers of the 13th China Expo Forum for International Co-operation (CEFCO 2017), said that the representativeness of participating countries in this edition of CECFO has improved compared with the previous editions. He noted that the contents as well as the arrangements of the sessions have unique characteristics, and will enable participants to fully understand the advantages of Macao´s convention and exhibition industry. Also, this edition has focused on inviting delegates from the Portuguese-speaking Countries (PSCs), and this initiative will benefit the deepening of the excellent co-operation between China and PSCs. On the other hand, some participants from the PSCs said that, from what they experienced through this Forum, they agree that Macao has perfect hardware and software facilities and therefore, they suggested, efforts should be made in attracting more international events to be held in Macao

Consumer Council’s 2016 complaint cases dropped by twelve percent

Consumer Council received a total of 6,420 cases last year, down by 13.7 percent year-on-year, with a clearance rate of over 90 percent. The Consumer Arbitration Centre received 19 cases in 2016.

Tourist price index (TPI) for the 4th quarter 2016

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the average Tourist Price Index (TPI) for the whole year of 2016 continued its downward trend from 2015 (-0.86%), down by 5.44% to 130.86, with siginifcant decline in the price index of Accommodation (-21.20%) and Transport & Communications (-9.82%). However, price index of Restaurant Services, Miscellaneous Goods, and Food, Alcoholic Beverages & Tobacco increased by 2.27%, 2.20% and 1.91% respectively year-on-year.
