Tourist price index (TPI) for the 4th quarter 2016

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the average Tourist Price Index (TPI) for the whole year of 2016 continued its downward trend from 2015 (-0.86%), down by 5.44% to 130.86, with siginifcant decline in the price index of Accommodation (-21.20%) and Transport & Communications (-9.82%). However, price index of Restaurant Services, Miscellaneous Goods, and Food, Alcoholic Beverages & Tobacco increased by 2.27%, 2.20% and 1.91% respectively year-on-year.


Consumer Council released price survey on 11 festive foods

Consumer Council collected prices of 11 festive foods from 24 retail outlets on 12 January for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12thJune. The collected data has been uploaded to the Council’s website (www.consumer.gov.mo) and the ‘Supermarket Price Information Platform’ iPhone and Android apps. Consumers can also check the data through the Council’s official WeChat account.


Macao Orchestra offers additional performance for Japanese Drama Classic “Nodame Cantabile Music Concert”, due to public demand

The Japanese Drama Classic “Nodame Cantabile Music Concert”, presented by the Macao Orchestra, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, to be held on 11 February, has been enthusiastically sought-after by the public. Tickets for the concert were sold out after going on sale. Considering the high public demand, the Macao Orchestra offers an additional concert on 10 February, at 8pm. Tickets for this additional concert are available through the Macau Ticketing Network from 16 January. Should the music fans have not bought the tickets, this is a golden opportunity not to be missed.


AACM launches 5 promotional videos to promote aviation regulations and requirements as well as the commercial operations of consumer disputes

The Civil Aviation Authority of Macao SAR (AACM) launches five promotional videos today with the objective of using a comprehensible means of communication to educate the Macao residents and the passengers to better understand the information that is most relevant to them, including the aviation regulations and requirements as well as the commercial operations of consumer disputes.


Parade for Celebration of the Year of the Rooster comes into spotlight on the third and eighth day of Lunar New Year

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) will present its mega festive event in celebration of Chinese New Year together with residents and visitors, entitled the “Parade for Celebration of the Year of the Rooster”, on the third day (30 January) and eighth day (4 February) of Lunar New Year. The event features fabulous float parades, mega joint performances, splendid fireworks display, float exhibition, snapshot competition and so forth. In the days ahead, MGTO will keep taking its festive events to a new level of scope and impact to attract visitors from a greater diversity of markets to Macao and encourage more local residents to participate in the events.

Consumer Council conducted a survey on the fibre broadband services provided by the two local internet service providers, the survey and the suggestions of the Council have been uploaded on the Council’s website.


Consumer Council released latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ in Taipa and Coloane area

Consumer Council conducted itslatest ‘Supermarket price survey’ in January on 11 January for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included 12 supermarkets in Taipa and Coloane area.


Vernissage of the exhibition : Love of Macao – Photographs by Lee Kung Kim held at Macao Museum of Art

The Macao Museum of Art (MAM), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, and the Black-And-White Photographic Society of Macao co-organize the exhibition : Love of Macao– Photographs by Lee Kung Kim, featuring 150 excellent documental photography works under the theme of Macao. The donation ceremony and the vernissage was held on Wednesday, 11 January, at 6:30pm, at the auditorium on the 1st floor of the MAM. The President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Ung Vai Meng, presented the certification of appreciation to the family representative, the daughter of Lee Kung Kim, Lee Sio Kit. Other guests who attended in the ceremony included the experienced Macao photographers, Tam Kai Hon, Ou Ping, and Wong Tong Ming; the President of the General Assembly of the Photographic Society of Macao, Kuok Keng Man; the President of the General Assembly of the Photography Salon Society of Macao, Leong I Cheng; the Chairman of the Macao Digital Photography Association, Yen Kuac Fu; the Chairman of the Black-And-White Photographic Society of Macao, Lei Hou Lok; the friend of Lee Kung Kim, Chu Vai Kun; the Principal of Macao Lingnan Middle School, Ao Cam Iong, and among others.


Mortgage loans statistics – November 2016

According to statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, new approvals of residential mortgage loans (RMLs) increased whereas those of commercial real estate loans (CRELs) decreased in November 2016. With regard to the outstanding balance, RMLs and CRELs both increased mildly.New lending approved In November 2016, new RMLs approved by Macao banks increased by 57.1% month-to-month to MOP4.5 billion. Of which, new RMLs to residents, accounting for 78.2% of the total, increased by 25.5% to MOP3.5 billion. The non-resident component surged by 1,505.6% to MOP983.0 million, mainly attributed to larger loan size recorded for a number of approvals to enterprises. When compared with the same period of 2015, new approvals of RMLs increased by 84.9%.New RMLs collateralised by uncompleted units (i.e. equitable mortgage) decreased by 4.4% from the preceding month to MOP257.7 million. The equitable mortgage extended to residents, which accounted for 97.3% of the total, decreased by 4.6% from the previous month. On an annual basis, new equitable mortgage approved dropped by 35.6%.New CRELs shrank by 67.1% month-to-month to MOP2.0 billion; of which, new CRELs to residents, accounting for 97.7% of the total, decreased by 67.9%. In contrast, new CRELs to non-residents soared by 1,457.0% from a lower comparison base in the previous month to MOP47.4 million. On an annual basis, new approvals of CRELs declined by 51.1%.Outstanding balances As at end-November 2016, the outstanding value of RMLs was MOP179.6 billion, an increase of 0.6% from the previous month or 5.3% from a year ago. The resident component made up 93.6% of the total. When compared with the previous month, outstanding RMLs to residents and non-residents increased by 0.4% and 2.1% respectively.The outstanding value of CRELs was MOP173.1 billion, up by 0.9% month-to-month or 6.4% when compared with a year ago. Residents accounted for 89.2% of the loans. Compared with a month earlier, outstanding CRELs to residents and non-residents increased by 1.0% and 0.7% respectively.Delinquency ratiosAt the end of November 2016, the delinquency ratio for RMLs was 0.17%, up 0.02 percentage points from a month ago or 0.08 percentage points from a year ago. The ratio for CRELs was 0.11%, up 0.02 percentage points from one month earlier or 0.04 percentage points from end-November 2015.


AACM launches new publicity materials for security-control items and dangerous goods at airport

To renew the publicity materials for the security-control items and the dangerous goods at Macau International Airport, the previous ones of which have been in place for many years, the Civil Aviation Authority of Macao SAR (AACM) started the renewal project of producing new printed posters and a video since the second half of last year. The new publicity materials are installed and made public today.The publicity materials for the security-control items and the dangerous goods at Macau International Airport comprise of three major subjects: 1) the requirements of the carriage of liquids, aerosols and gels, 2) the types of restricted articles and 3) the types of dangerous goods (including the requirements of the carriage of lithium batteries). The information of these subjects is published in printed posters and broadcasted in a video, which are put in the baggage screening area, the check-in counters, the passenger screening area and the boarding gates on the departures level, as well as in the transit corridor and the express link area. The electronic screens at the check-in counters and the passenger screening area are newly adopted for this purpose. The video has been broadcasted in the electronic screens in these areas since mid-December 2016.During the production process, AACM invited the Public Security Police Force, the Administration of Airports Ltd. and Menzies Macau Airport Services Ltd. to participate in defining the content of the new publicity materials. AACM hopes that through collaboration among all parties and with the valuable ideas and comments collected for this project, the new publicity materials can give the passengers a better picture of what they need to comply with, as well as facilitate the airport personnel in attending to enquiries made by the passengers on related issues in their day-to-day operations.
