MPI Organised “Brushing Up Your English” Activities

In the first semester of this academic year, the MPI Student Affairs Office and the MPI-Bell Centre of English jointly organised a series of extra-curricular English activities for its undergraduates. Following the Institute’s long-standing tradition of learning foreign languages and aimed at encouraging the undergraduates to improve their English proficiency and sharpening their daily-life English skills in their leisure time, the series, entitled “Brushing Up Your English”, included an English writing competition, a Halloween English party, social English lunch gatherings, an IELTS preparation course and a course for strengthening their communicative ability in English, and all activities of the series were very well received. Some participants in those activities even took one step further and obtained the “Cambridge English Business Certificate”, an international certificate recognising their English proficiency for professional purposes.


Inauguration of 11th Macau Design Biennial Exhibition

The 11th Macau Design Biennial, jointly organised by the Macao Museum of Art, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, and the Macau Designers Association and co-organised by the Macao Foundation, was inaugurated on 18 December 2017, at 6:30pm, at the Special Exhibitions Gallery of the Handover Gifts Museum of Macao. Following the opening ceremony, an Award Ceremony was held at the Macau Design Centre where winners were announced and prizes were awarded. The competition and exhibition held in the Macau Design Biennial, helps to explore more possibilities of design and urban development through visual language.

Consumer Council released latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ in Taipa and Coloane area

Consumer Council conducted its latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ on 18 December for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included 12 supermarkets in Taipa and Coloane area.


IFT students helped a new premium sports fashion brand to propose innovative marketing campaign

This year, under the entrepreneurship course, students helped Mr. Simon Kuong, the CEO and co-founder of a new premium sports fashion brand called ANIFA, to propose innovative marketing campaign as well as promote innovative ideas for their sustainability strategy and corporate social responsibility strategies. The nature of the project was to research the industry and the market. This was a fantastic opportunity given to students as they gained fresh insights and experience relating to building a new brand and launching a new international brand as an entrepreneurial endeavour. We have to thank Mr. Tom Chui, an industry expert throughout the process for his support and feedback to students.


The FSS Employment Incentive Programme for Disability Pension Beneficiaries to be Implemented on New Year’s Day

On 1 January 2018, the Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao) will turn the six-month “Employment Incentive Pilot Programme for Disability Pension Beneficiaries” (the Programme) into a constant measure by optimizing the statutes of the Programme, in particular, extending the trial work grace period and the reporting period so as to encourage beneficiaries of disability pension or temporary disability subsidy to integrate into the labour market and build their confidence.



UM publishes English student magazine Umac Bridges

The University of Macau (UM) Department of Communication recently held a launch ceremony for the latest issue of the English student magazine Umac Bridges 2017. Themed ‘kaleidoscope’, this new issue depicts Macao from four angles, namely community, youth, creativity, and culture. The fruit of an English publication course for fourth-year students majoring in communication, the magazine demonstrates students’ professional skills in journalism, desktop publishing, and web production. The course was supervised by Prof Wu Mei. Participating students Heather Jean Birkeland who acted as. Project Manager and Charlotte Lei of Chief Editor shared their experience at the ceremony. Free copies of the magazine are available on all public magazine racks on campus.


Macao, Mongolia sign agreement on transfer of sentenced persons

The Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) and Mongolia have signed a reciprocal agreement on the transfer of sentenced persons, in order to enhance judicial cooperation between the two sides.
