Consumer Council conducted price survey on selling prices of fresh pork and vegetables from Zhuhai, Hong Kong, and Macao

For the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June, Consumer Council collected prices of fresh pork from wet markets and supermarkets on 15 August. The mentioned data collected during 9 August to 15 August are used for comparing the average selling prices of fresh pork and vegetables from Zhuhai, and also for comparing the average prices of the two food items from Zhuhai, Hong Kong, and Macao in the previous month. The relevant data has been uploaded to the Council’s website for consumers’ reference.


MPI welcomes 900 outstanding freshmen in the new academic year

With its educational principles of student-centeredness and quality teaching, Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) has long been very popular with students. Over 6,600 students applied for admission to MPI in the 2017/2018 academic year with around 900 joining as freshmen. Over 80% of MPI’s new students are from Macao, including those who are either academically high rankers or local/international award winners in fields such as science and technology, sports, arts, languages, debating and public speaking. The Institute will award scholarships to 150 high-achieving freshmen to encourage them to do their very best in their studies so as to contribute to the society in the future.


UM holds convocation to welcome 1,700 freshmen Rector hopes students acquire ‘great knowledge’ and ‘great character’

The University of Macau (UM) today (15 August) held the orientation and convocation for the 2017/2018 academic year to welcome more than 1,700 freshmen. UM Rector Wei Zhao gave the ‘first lecture at UM’ to the students, encouraging them to make the most of the ‘great buildings’ and ‘great professors’ at UM to acquire ‘great knowledge’ and ‘great character’, so they can rise up to the challenges of the 21st century.


Handover Gifts Museum of Macao exhibits lotus flower paintings by Professor Jao Tsung-I

Co-organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region, the Hong Kong University, the Jao Tsung-I Petite École Fan Club and the Jao Studies Foundation and held by the Macao Museum of Art (MAM) and the Jao Tsung-I Petite École of the University of Hong Kong, the exhibition “The Glamour of Jao’s Lotus - Touring Exhibition of Lotus-themed Artworks by Professor Jao Tsung-I” will be inaugurated on 18 August (Friday) at the Special Exhibition Gallery of Handover Gifts Museum of Macao. This exhibition is one of the activities marking the 100th anniversary of Professor Jao Tsung-I. and is open to the general public. The catalogue of the exhibition “The Glamour of Jao’s Lotus - Touring Exhibition of Lotus-themed Artworks by Professor Jao Tsung-I” is available for sale at the price of MOP150 during the opening ceremony.


FSS Visits Hong Kong Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority to Gain Implementation Experience of the MPF System

The Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao) today (August 15) visited Hong Kong Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) to gain implementation experience and to learn about the latest developments in the MPF system of Hong Kong, using it as a reference for the future implementation of non-mandatory central provident fund system.


Foreign exchange reserves and nominal effective exchange rate index for the pataca – July 2017

The Monetary Authority of Macao announced today that the preliminary estimate of Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves amounted to MOP157.9 billion (USD19.62 billion) at the end of July 2017. The reserves decreased by 0.8% from the revised value of MOP159.2 billion (USD19.80 billion) for the previous month. Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves at end-July 2017 represented 11 times the currency in circulation or 89.5% of pataca M2 at end-June 2017.


Consumer Council released latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ Surveyed spots included 13 supermarkets in N. Sra. de Fátima Parish

Consumer Council conducted its first ‘Supermarket price survey’ in August on 15 August for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included supermarkets near Areia Preta, Mong Há and Avenida de Venceslau de Morais in N. Sra. de Fátima Parish.

The Electoral Affairs Commission for the Legislative Assembly Election is to conduct a draw tomorrow (16 August) to determine the order in which each candidate team will be able to use television and radio airtime of the Teledifusao de Macau (TDM) for the purposes of electioneering.

Mr. Liu Chung Laung, a member of the Advisory Council of the Macao Science and Technology Development Fund, Mr. He Jintang, Fellow of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Mr. Li Ning, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Li Ning Company Limited recently received their certificates of appointment from Secretary for Economy and Finance Lionel Leong Vai Tac, to become Macao´s “Conference Ambassadors”. The said Ambassadors stated that, with the support from central government and the national strategy, together with Macao’s Mice’s software and hardware, they believe that it is possible to attract a larger number of international conferences to Macao, and that they will contribute the development of Macao’s convention and exhibitions industry, as well as the growth of various business sectors of Macao, so as to raise the “soft power” of Macao’s MICE Industry.
