Mortgage loans statistics – June 2026
According to statistics released today (14 August) by the Monetary Authority of Macao, new approvals of residential mortgage loans (RMLs) and commercial real estate loans (CRELs) increased month-on-month in June 2026. With regard to the outstanding balances, both RMLs and CRELs witnessed declines on a monthly basis.

Small and medium-sized enterprise credit statistics – First half of 2026
According to statistics released today (14 August) by the Monetary Authority of Macao, newly approved small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) credit noted a year-on-year decrement in the first half of 2026. While the outstanding balance of SME loans dropped, the share of SME loans to major industries remained stable.

MICE statistics for the first half of 2026
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that number of MICE events remained the same year-on-year, at 499, in the second quarter of 2026. Number of participants & attendees of MICE events increased by 37.6% year-on-year to 314,000, benefiting from an increase in exhibition attendees. Moreover, MICE-driven receipts of the non-gaming industries in the Macao Special Administrative Region (Macao SAR) surged by 54.8% year-on-year to MOP1.59 billion in the second quarter, driven by the growth in the number of non-local participants & attendees and the per-capita spending of MICE visitors.

Rental statistics for the second quarter of 2026
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the average rent per square metre of usable area for residential units decreased by 0.1% quarter-on-quarter to MOP140 in the second quarter of 2026. Besides, the average rents for shops (MOP460), office units (MOP272) and industrial units (MOP116) went down by 1.5%, 0.6% and 0.3% respectively from the previous quarter.

Surging Investment Projects in Macao’s Four Major Industries Showcase Robust Investment Potential and Accelerate the Layout of Industrial Innovation
Leveraging the “One Country, Two Systems” principle and its unique geographical advantages, Macao is comprehensively promoting the “1+4” industries towards an appropriately diversified economy. Macao SAR Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute (“IPIM”) received 194 new investment proposals in the first half of 2026, representing a year-on-year increase of 7%. Notably, over 60% of the projects were meant for the “1+4” industries, an increase of over 40% compared with the same period last year. Regarding these industries, the modern financial services, high technology and big health projects saw particularly robust growth, with big health projects increasing by over 60%, and modern financial services and high technology projects recording exponential growth.

UM holds convocation to welcome over 6,000 new students
The University of Macau (UM) held the Convocation and First Lecture of University for the 2026/2027 academic year today (13 August), welcoming over 6,000 new students as they embark on their academic journey at the university. Yonghua Song, rector of UM, encouraged students to make full use of the university’s resources to enrich their learning experience and achieve holistic development both inside and outside the classroom.
