Analyzing Frontline Trends to Seize Opportunities: Macao’s Convention and Exhibition Industry Gains High Recognition from the World

To support the local convention and exhibition industry in seizing opportunities amidst the rapidly changing landscape, the Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) held a training course and Meet@Macao exchange event on 27 Nov at the Complex of Commerce and Trade Co-operation Platform for China and Portuguese-speaking Countries. IPIM’s convention and exhibition consultant shared insights on the topic “Future trends in MICE for 2026 and beyond”, attracting over 50 industry professionals and representatives from the MICE sector and higher institutions in Macao.



UM holds Ceremony for the Conferment of Higher Degrees, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture affirms UM’s role in advancing education and research in Macao

The University of Macau (UM) today (30 November) held the Ceremony for the Conferment of Honorary and Higher Degrees 2025. This year, over 2,240 students graduated from UM’s doctoral and master’s degree programmes, as well as postgraduate diploma programmes. Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture O Lam, acting as the representative of the chief executive of the Macao SAR and chancellor of UM, said that UM has not only laid a solid foundation for the development of higher education in Macao, but has also become a key force in advancing educational progress and scientific research through its remarkable achievements.


UM confers honorary doctorates on two distinguished scholars

The University of Macau (UM) held the Ceremony for the Conferment of Honorary and Higher Degrees 2025 today (30 November). During the ceremony, the university conferred honorary doctorates on Ze Zhang, a leading scholar in crystal structure in materials science, and Thomas J. Sargent, Nobel laureate in Economic Sciences, in recognition of their outstanding achievements and significant contributions to society.



Aviation Safety First: AACM has instructed Air Macau to implement the software update required by Airbus

Following Airbus's notification on November 28, 2025, which called for precautionary software updates on A320 family aircraft, the Civil Aviation Authority (AACM) immediately instructed Air Macau to assess and address the issue. Air Macau promptly acted on upgrading the necessary software updates to affected aircraft upon receiving the Airbus’ notification and made appropriate re-scheduling arrangements to affected flights, minimizing inconvenience to passengers.


UM Doctor of Business Administration honoris causa gives talk on redistribution and insurance in US household data

The University of Macau (UM) held a UM Doctor honoris causa Lecture today (28 November). Thomas J. Sargent, recipient of the Doctor of Business Administration honoris causa from UM and the 2011 Nobel laureate in Economic Sciences, delivered a talk titled ‘Quantifying Redistribution and Insurance in U.S. Household Data’, where he shared his latest research findings. The lecture attracted a large and diverse audience.


UM honorary doctor gives talk on advanced materials microstructures

The University of Macau (UM) held a UM Doctor honoris causa Lecture today (28 November). Ze Zhang, recipient of the Doctor of Science honoris causa from UM and a leading scholar in crystal structure in materials science, delivered a talk titled ‘In-Situ Microstructure Study on Property Variation of Advanced Materials under Simulated Service Condition’, where he shared his research findings on the unique microstructures of quasicrystals and other functional nanomaterials, as well as their potential applications.



Macao donates 30 million for Hong Kong’s relief effort following Tai Po fire

The Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) Government is to donate HKD30 million, through the Macao Foundation, to support the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government in its relief effort and subsequent reconstruction work after a massive fire affected Wang Fuk Court in the HKSAR’s Tai Po district.
