Construction sector survey and architectural & Engineering consultancy services survey 2024

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that receipts of the Construction Sector grew by 3.7% year-on-year to MOP54.66 billion in 2024. Of which, receipts from Construction Works Performed (MOP53.37 billion) grew by 2.4% due to an increase in receipts from private construction works. Besides, expenditure of the sector rose by 4.2% year-on-year to MOP50.61 billion. Gross Surplus of the sector totalled MOP4.04 billion in 2024.


Statistics on electronic payment transaction value – restaurants & similar establishments and retail trade for August 2025

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the electronic payment transaction value (hereinafter referred to as transaction value) grew by 7.8% month-on-month for restaurants & similar establishments and 17.0% for retail trade in August 2025, buoyed by the continued effects of the summer holidays. Meanwhile, the two industries saw year-on-year increases of 2.2% and 4.7% respectively.


Tourist price index (TPI) for the third quarter of 2025

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Tourist Price Index (TPI) for the third quarter of 2025 went down by 0.82% year-on-year. The decrease was mainly due to lower hotel room rates but was partially offset by dearer prices of jewellery, as well as higher entertainment and leisure expenses. Among various sections of goods and services, price index of Accommodation fell by 11.34% year-on-year, whereas the price indices of Miscellaneous Goods (e.g. jewellery, watches, arts and crafts) and Entertainment & Cultural Activities rose by 8.02% and 7.42% respectively.


Results of restaurants and similar establishments survey 2024

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that receipts of restaurants and similar establishments (i.e. restaurants, eating & drinking places, takeaway shops and cooked-food stalls in municipal markets) grew by 3.4% year-on-year to MOP15.05 billion in 2024. In addition, expenditure rose by 3.1% year-on-year to MOP15.10 billion. The industry continued to record a loss in 2024, but the loss narrowed compared to 2023.


【International exchange】MGTO attends 66th APEC Tourism Working Group Meeting in Qingdao

On behalf of Macao, China as a guest economy, Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and the Economic and Technological Development Bureau attended the66thAsia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Tourism Working Group Meeting (the “Meeting”), held in Qingdao from 14 to 16 October. During the Meeting, MGTO presented an overview of Macao’s latest tourism situation and the Macao Tourism Industry Development Master Plan, while exchanging ideas with representatives of APEC’s member economies on the outlook of tourism, which elevated Macao’s influence and engagement with international tourism organizations.


Newly-appointed Government officials sworn in

The Chief Executive, Mr Sam Hou Fai, today administered the swearing-in of Mr Wong Sio Chak as the Secretary for Administration and Justice; Mr Chan Tsz King as the Secretary for Security; and Mr Tong Hio Fong as Prosecutor-General.
