UM Doctor of Business Administration honoris causa gives talk on redistribution and insurance in US household data
The University of Macau (UM) held a UM Doctor honoris causa Lecture today (28 November). Thomas J. Sargent, recipient of the Doctor of Business Administration honoris causa from UM and the 2011 Nobel laureate in Economic Sciences, delivered a talk titled ‘Quantifying Redistribution and Insurance in U.S. Household Data’, where he shared his latest research findings. The lecture attracted a large and diverse audience.

UM honorary doctor gives talk on advanced materials microstructures
The University of Macau (UM) held a UM Doctor honoris causa Lecture today (28 November). Ze Zhang, recipient of the Doctor of Science honoris causa from UM and a leading scholar in crystal structure in materials science, delivered a talk titled ‘In-Situ Microstructure Study on Property Variation of Advanced Materials under Simulated Service Condition’, where he shared his research findings on the unique microstructures of quasicrystals and other functional nanomaterials, as well as their potential applications.

Macao donates 30 million for Hong Kong’s relief effort following Tai Po fire
The Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) Government is to donate HKD30 million, through the Macao Foundation, to support the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government in its relief effort and subsequent reconstruction work after a massive fire affected Wang Fuk Court in the HKSAR’s Tai Po district.

IAM to launch “registration of intention of environmentally friendly burial” service
In order to further promote the environmentally friendly burial service in Macao, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) will launch the “registration of intention of environmentally friendly burial” service from 1 December to allow members of the public to plan their own intention to choose environmentally friendly burial in advance.

Coordinated Portfolio Investment Survey – 30 June 2025
According to the statistics released today (28 November) by the Monetary Authority of Macao, on 30 June 2025, investment of Macao residents (including individuals, the government and other legal entities but excluding Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves) in securities issued by unrelated non-residents reached MOP1,314.7 billion at current market value, representing increments of 9.2% and 12.1% when compared with end-2024 and end-June 2024 respectively. Among the various instruments of portfolio investment, the market values of equity securities (including mutual funds and investment trust units), long-term debt securities and short-term debt securities increased by 3.4%, 6.5% and 37.1% from end-2024 to MOP327.1 billion, MOP799.6 billion and MOP187.9 billion respectively.

Transport and communications statistics for October 2025
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that licensed motor vehicles in the Macao Special Administrative Region totalled 253,757 as at end-October 2025, up by 0.7% year-on-year. In October, cross-border vehicular traffic (1,008,461 trips) and arriving and departing commercial flights at the Macau International Airport (4,939 trips) rose by 20.0% and 6.8% year-on-year respectively, whereas passenger ferry trips (6,722 trips) dropped by 2.0%. As at end-October, number of mobile phone subscribers (1,496,810) and internet subscribers (784,182) showed respective growth of 3.7% and 1.6% year-on-year.

External merchandise trade statistics for October 2025
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total merchandise exports and imports amounted to MOP1.30 billion and MOP11.22 billion in October 2025, up by 7.9% and 0.7% year-on-year respectively. Merchandise trade deficit totalled MOP9.92 billion.

Employment survey for August – October 2025
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that both the general unemployment rate (1.7%) and the unemployment rate of local residents (2.3%) for August - October 2025 fell by 0.1 percentage point over the previous period (July - September).

Industrial structure of the Macao SAR 2024
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that Gross Value Added of all economic activities in the Macao Special Administrative Region (Macao SAR) expanded by 8.2% year-on-year in real terms to MOP384.54 billion in 2024 amid the further recovery of the local economy. Gross Value Added of the tertiary sector (i.e. service sector, such as wholesale & retail trade, restaurants & similar activities, financial activities and gaming) and the secondary sector (i.e. industrial production and construction) stood at MOP365.88 billion and MOP18.66 billion respectively.
