Eligibility confirmed of 348 people wishing to contest for places on Chief Executive Election Committee

The Electoral Affairs Commission for the Chief Executive Election confirmed the eligibility of all 348 individuals who submitted applications to contest for the places on the Chief Executive Election Committee.


IAM to remove two trees at risk of collapse

The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) has arranged for the removal of two trees at risk of collapse to be carried out in July. The two trees include one Chinese Hackberry tree in Praça de Luís de Camões and one Batavia Cinnamon tree in Avenida de Sidónio Pais. IAM advises the public to follow the on-site instructions and refrain from entering the enclosed area during the work period to avoid accidents.


IAM cooperates with Guangzhou Zoo to conserve white-cheeked gibbons

The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) continues to keep its close cooperation with Guangzhou Zoo, and will send the white-cheeked gibbon kept in Seac Pai Van Park to Guangzhou zoo this month, as well as participating in the conservation of national rare wildlife and promoting the protection, reproduction and sustainable development of these species. The white-cheeked gibbon is currently undergoing quarantine, and the keepers are closely observing its conditions.


Mortgage loans statistics – May 2024

According to statistics released today (11 July) by the Monetary Authority of Macao, new approvals of residential mortgage loans (RMLs) fell whereas those of commercial real estate loans (CRELs) rose month-on-month in May 2024. With regard to the outstanding balances, both RMLs and CRELs witnessed declines on a monthly basis.


UM to hold University Women’s Volleyball Invitational Tournament next week

The ‘Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th Anniversary of the Macao SAR: University Women’s Volleyball Invitational Tournament’, organised by the University of Macau (UM), will be held from 17 July (Wednesday) to 18 July (Thursday) at UM. The tournament will feature women’s volleyball teams from UM, Hong Kong Baptist University, Lanzhou University, and the Pedagogical University of Maputo in Mozambique. All are welcome to watch the game. The tournament is sponsored by the Banco Nacional Ultramarino (BNU).


“Online Food Ordering Scams” resurface

Recently, the Judiciary Police (PJ) has once again received reports of online food ordering scams. Fraudsters have set up social media pages offering "Chinese or Western light meal bento boxes" or "light, low-fat meals" ordering services, enticing consumers with discounts for orders in bulk or across multiple days. However, after victims placed orders and transferred hundreds to thousands of Macao Patacas via Mpay, they never received the meals and could not contact the sellers. The total losses reported by multiple victims exceeded six thousand Macao Patacas.

Cultural Affairs Bureau launches call for the submission of articles for the Review of Culture, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the inscription of the “Historic Centre of Macao” on the World Heritage List

In order to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the inscription of the “Historic Centre of Macao” on the World Heritage List in 2025, the Review of Culture, an academic journal published by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, invites scholars and experts from different areas to submit academic publications related to Macao’s cultural heritage and historical studies.



Macao Chinese Orchestra Concert Season Closing Concert “Southland · Four Seasons” to be presented in late July

The Macao Chinese Orchestra 2023-24 Concert Season Closing Concert “Southland · Four Seasons” will be held on 28 July (Sunday), at 8pm, at the Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium. Under the baton of Yu-An Chang, a young conductor and winner of the Bucharest Music Institute (BMI) International Conducting Competition, the Macao Chinese Orchestra will join hands with bangdi performer Lai Yi-Chun and sanxian performer Tsai Yu-Tung to present southern compositions and the suite of the four seasons. Tickets are now on sale at the Macau Ticketing Network.
