Demographic statistics for the first half of 2024

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the total population of Macao at the end of the first half of 2024 (687,000) increased by 8,200 year-on-year, due to a rise in the number of non-resident workers living in Macao. As regards the gender distribution, the female population (367,400) exceeded the male population (319,600), accounting for 53.5% of the total.


Company statistics for the 2nd quarter of 2024

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the number of newly incorporated companies rose by 62 quarter-on-quarter to 1,179 in the second quarter of 2024, while the number of companies in dissolution grew by 137 to 365; this represented a net increase of 814 in the number of companies. Among the newly incorporated companies, 374 were operating in Wholesale & Retail Trade and 345 in Business Services. Meanwhile, total value of registered capital of the new companies fell by 24.2% quarter-on-quarter to MOP154 million, due to a decrease in the number of new companies with large capital in Financial Activities and those engaged in the industries related to high-tech products.


Intermittent Interruptions of Services DSMG in the Early Morning of August 5 due to Network Maintenance and Upgrade

The network system of DSMG will undergo maintenance and upgrade on August 5 (Monday) between 12a.m. and 7a.m. Please kindly be informed that during this period, there will be intermittent delays in certain information dissemination services. The 1311 telephone system inquiry service will also experience intermittent interruptions. Services will return to normal once the maintenance and upgrade work is completed. 1st Macao International Children’s Arts Festival’s MICAF elves brings promotional activities to the community in August spending a joyous summer with the public

Under the patronage of the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture of the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region, organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, and co-organised and supported by various entities, the 1st Macao International Children’s Arts Festival will launch promotional activities “Meet-the-MICAF elves sessions” and “MICAF, MICAF where are you?” in August, in addition to a rich array of performances. The Festival’s MICAF elves will create a festive atmosphere with its buddies in the community and the relevant venues of the Festival’s programmes.


UM rector attends Joint Annual Conference of Physical Societies in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area

The 2024 Joint Annual Conference of Physical Societies in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area was held in Macao. Rector Yonghua Song and Vice Rector Ge Wei of the University of Macau (UM), together with more than 320 experts and scholars in the field of physics from around the world, attended the conference to discuss the latest research findings and development trends in physics, and to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in the field in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).


Monetary and financial statistics – June 2024

According to statistics released today (2 August) by the Monetary Authority of Macao, broad money supply retreated in June. Meanwhile, both resident deposits and loans decreased from a month earlier.


Temporary Residency Applications Handled in the First Half of 2024

In the first half of 2024, Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute has handled 68 temporary residency applications for "Investors, Managerial Personnel and Professionals with Special Qualifications". Among them, there were 32 renewal applications, 2 applications for residency extension to family dependent, and 34 new applications. 11 new applications were approved in the first half of 2024. Online registration for the exchange of four previously issued Zodiac banknotes commencing next Monday (5 August)

The online registration for the four previously issued Zodiac Banknotes (including the Rat, Ox, Tiger and Rabbit Zodiac Banknotes) will commence at 9:00 am on 5 August 2024. Each Macao resident can conduct a single registration for the exchange via the Authority’s website, and the registration will end at 6:00 pm on 30 August 2024.


hush! Beach Concerts 2024 Open call for proposals for local bands, musicians and curators of art installations

Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), the “hush! Beach Concerts 2024” will be held from 9 to 10 November on Hac Sa Beach, presenting a multi-stage exhilarating music “marathon” and bringing exciting activities including creative gastronomy bazaars, experiences with musical instruments, art installations, children’s play area, and network connections. The event will also feature innovative land and water-based sports and outdoor recreational activities, creating a cross-disciplinary large-scale music festival. IC is now calling for the participation of local bands, musicians and curators of art installations. Interested parties are welcome to apply from 1 to 15 August. All are welcome to participate in the event to promote Macao’s pop music culture.
