UM holds 36th Asian Finance Association Annual Conference

To promote innovation in finance research, the Faculty of Business Administration (FBA) of the University of Macau (UM) and the Asian Finance Association (AsianFA) jointly organised the 36th Asian Finance Association Annual Conference. The three-day conference brought together about 300 finance scholars from around the world to share their research findings.

In order to promote arts education and allow residents and young dancers of Macao to come into contact with dancers from all over the world and to experience at first hand the dance culture of different regions, Artistic Performance Workshops relating to the Student and Youth Show in Celebration of Macao’s Return to the Motherland cum International Youth Dance Festival were held at the Luso-Chinese Secondary School of Luís Gonzaga Gomes on the morning of 22 July. Through the dance stage and body language, the workshops encouraged mutual learning and admiration, development of friendships and cross-cultural exchanges among the participants.

The ‘Student and Youth Show in Celebration of Macao’s Return to the Motherland’ indoor performances were successfully held today (22 July) at Macau Forum. The event was co-organised by the Education and Youth Development Bureau, SJM Resorts Limited and Nam Kwong (Group) Company Limited, in collaboration with the Municipal Affairs Bureau, the Macao Government Tourism Office, the Cultural Affairs Bureau, the Sports Bureau, the University of Macau, Macao Polytechnic University, the Education Forum for Asia in Beijing, the Chinese Educators Association of Macau, the Macau Higher Education Development Promotion Association, the Macau Catholic Schools Association, the Associação Educativa da Função Pública de Macau and the Committee of Macao Youth Associations for Organising Activities, and with the support of the Guangdong Youth Federation.

[Giving Full Play to China-PSC Platform] IPIM Organises a Delegation to Visit Angola and Mozambique for Investment Promotion

A delegation of 40 entrepreneurs organised by the Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) will attend the “Entrepreneurs Meeting for Commercial and Economic Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries-Luanda-2024” to be held from 24 to 26 July, local time, and the “Macao-Hengqin Investment Promotion Seminar (Mozambique)” to be held on 29 July. The delegation will participate in a series of business activities, including the International Fair of Luanda (FILDA), which is the largest and most influential comprehensive expo in southwest Africa, various economic and trade promotion activities, business matching sessions, and field inspections, in order to build the bridges for co-operation between Chinese and Portuguese-speaking countries’ enterprises. It is also hoped to attract high-quality projects in PSCs to make full use of Macao-Hengqin business advantages and Macao’s unique role as the “Commercial and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries” to deepen the business exchanges between China and PSCs.


UM professor named MIT Technology Review’s 35 Innovators Under 35 for China

MIT Technology Review, in collaboration with DeepTech, hosted the Meet 35 Summit 2024 and the MIT Technology Review 35 Innovators Under 35 China Award Ceremony. Sun Pengzhan, assistant professor at the Institute of Applied Physics and Materials Engineering (IAPME) at the University of Macau (UM), was named one of the 35 Innovators Under 35 for China (TR35 China), making him the only scholar from Macao on the list.


[Macao-Hengqin “1+4” Industries-related Investment Promotion] Macao-Hengqin Delegation Visits 10 Listed Companies and Private Enterprises in 5 GBA Regions in 3 days

The Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) of the Macao Special Administrative Region and the Economic Development Bureau of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Co-operation Zone in Hengqin conducted visits to ten listed and private enterprises in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area’s cities on 16, 17 and 19 July, including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai and Zhongshan, as well as the Co-operation Zone in Hengqin. The joint promotion delegation drew attention to the business advantages of Macao and Hengqin, especially the Prior Technical Meetings mechanism launched by IPIM in co-operation with five relevant government departments of the Co-operation Zone. They also give answers on-site to questions regarding project implementation in technical and administrative aspects. The visits were conducted with the hope that these enterprises can take the advantages of Macao’s and Hengqin’s favourable policies and launch businesses in these two regions to develop their international market.


42% of Employers Not Yet Paid Contributions, FSS Calls on People to Make Use of “Business & Associations Platform” and “Macao One Account” for Making Payments as Soon as Possible

As of 21 July, about11,000employers have not yet paid Social Security System’s obligatory system contributions for their employees for the second quarter of 2024, accounting for about 42% of the total employers who need to pay contributions. As the payment deadline approaches and the flow of people at the service points increases, the Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao) calls on employers and residents to make use of the “Business & Associations Platform” or the “Macao One Account” for making payments as soon as possible, so as to avoid paying late and waiting in a queue.
