Two fireworks shows next Monday (6 October) will be postponed owing to adverse weather conditions
According to the forecast of the Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG), tropical cyclone “Matmo” poses a threat of impact with the possibility to strengthen into a typhoon or one that is above the level on Saturday and Sunday (4 and 5 October). Given the risk and safety concerns entailed by the work of fireworks installment and launching, after a comprehensive assessment, the 33rdMacao International Fireworks Display Contest (two fireworks shows of the British and Brazilian companies) and Fireworks Carnival originally scheduled for the night of 6 October (next Monday) are postponed to ensure the safety of staffers and activities. Details of the rearrangement will be announced later.

37th Macao International Music Festival grandly inaugurated
Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), the 37th Macao International Music Festival (MIMF) was grandly inaugurated at the lobby of the Macao Cultural Centre on 3 October. Under the theme “Vocal Waves”, the MIMF this year is presenting 12 spectacular programmes and 14 outreach activities, showcasing a series of enchanting musical pieces this autumn.

Organised by the Macao Special Administrative Region (“SAR”) Government, the “Macao Week at the World Expo 2025 Osaka” (“Macao Week”) hosted its opening ceremony this morning (October 3) at the China Pavilion of Expo 2025 Osaka in Japan. The event is co-organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government (IC), the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), and the Cultural and Tourism Industry Committee under the China Chamber of International Commerce, executed by MGM China with full support from the Poly Culture Group.

UM Vice Rector Rui Martins receives Chinese Government’s Friendship Award
The Ceremony of the 2025 Chinese Government Friendship Award was held on 30 September at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Rui Martins, vice rector of the University of Macau (UM) and director of the Institute of Microelectronics, was one of the award recipients. He attended the ceremony to accept the honour. The Friendship Award is the highest recognition awarded by the Chinese government to foreign experts working in China in recognition of their outstanding contributions to fostering and promoting exchanges and cooperation between China and other countries.
